Conan O'Brien Voices a New Character in Toy Story 5

Secondupdate.com – American comedian and talk show host Conan O'Brien has officially joined the voice cast of the upcoming animated film Toy Story 5.

The news was announced directly by Disney during the Licensing Expo, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday (May 22).

Conan will voice a new character named Smarty Pants. Through his Instagram account, Conan expressed his excitement:

“These movies are incredible. I can’t believe this is happening,” he wrote. He also joked that Smarty Pants is cooler than Woody or Buzz.

“He’s the best character of them all,” he added.

Toy Story 5 will be directed by Andrew Stanton, with McKenna Harris as co-director, and produced by Jessica Choi. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on June 19, 2026.

Although the storyline has not been revealed, the film is rumored to explore the journey of toys trying to win the attention of today’s children, who are more interested in electronic devices.

Disney CEO Bob Iger first announced the fifth Toy Story project in February 2023, following the release of the spin-off Lightyear, which told the story of the real-life human who inspired the Buzz Lightyear character, voiced by Chris Evans.

Several other actors are also joining the voice cast, including Ernie Hudson, who will now voice Combat Carl, replacing the late Carl Weathers.

For reference, Toy Story 4, released in 2019, was a major success, grossing over $1 billion globally and winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

In an interview with Collider last year, Tim Allen (the voice of Buzz Lightyear) teased that the fifth film’s story is “very clever.” He said,

“If it wasn’t an amazing story, it wouldn’t be made. They wouldn’t call me and Tom [Hanks] unless it was a brilliant idea.”

Meanwhile, Pixar is currently riding a wave of success following Inside Out 2, and is preparing for its next film, Elio, an outer space adventure set to premiere on June 20, 2026.
