Secondupdate.com – Actor and rapper Will Smith has finally returned to the music scene with the release of his new album, Based On a True Story.

This album marks his first work in 20 years since his last album, Lost and Found, which was released in 2005.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, before releasing this album, Will Smith had already introduced several tracks from the album, such as Beautiful Scars (feat. Big Sean), First Love, You Can Make It, Tantrum, and Work of Art.

In a teaser video on Instagram, uploaded just hours before the release, Will Smith revealed that this album is a result of his self-exploration in discovering who he truly is.

Based On a True Story reunites Will Smith with his longtime collaborator, DJ Jazzy Jeff. The album also features collaborations with several other artists, including Teyana Taylor, Joyner Lucas, and his son, Jaden Smith.

"Over the past few years, I have been deeply exploring who and what I truly am," Smith said in the teaser video posted on his Instagram hours before the album's release.

Last year, he signed a deal with the indie label Slang Records to distribute this album.

In recent years, Will Smith has been in the spotlight following the incident at the 2022 Academy Awards, where he slapped Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. After the incident, Smith chose to refocus on his music career.

He also revealed that messages from two of his friends, Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar, inspired him to create this album.

"'Be honest with your story. Tell your story.' And that’s how I got Based On a True Story, from Jay," said Will Smith.
