Secondupdate.com – South Korean actress and singer IU, along with actor Byeon Woo Seok, have denied rumors claiming that they have withdrawn from MBC's latest drama, Wife of a 21st Century Prince.
Previously, a media outlet reported that the two stars had informed the production team of their intention to leave the project. The report also mentioned that this decision was made due to issues regarding the drama’s distribution agreement.
However, the agencies representing IU and Byeon Woo Seok quickly refuted the claims.
EDAM Entertainment, IU’s agency, affirmed that IU remains committed to the project.
"The rumor that IU is leaving Wife of a 21st Century Prince is completely untrue. She is actively preparing for the project," stated EDAM Entertainment.
A similar statement was made by Varo Entertainment, Byeon Woo Seok’s agency, which confirmed that the actor is still part of the drama.
The drama is scheduled to air on MBC in the second half of 2025. However, the streaming platform for its broadcast has yet to be determined.
Wife of a 21st Century Prince depicts an alternate version of Korea, where the country is still governed by a constitutional monarchy. The story follows Sung Hee Joo (played by IU), the daughter of a wealthy chaebol family who holds no noble status, and Prince Ian (played by Byeon Woo Seok), a powerless prince despite being the king’s son. Together, they struggle against social constraints to find freedom and love.
The drama is a flagship project of MBC and Kakao Entertainment and was the winning script in a screenwriting competition hosted by MBC.
