Shanghai to Present Harry Potter Attraction at Jinjiang Action Park, Target Opening in 2027

Secondupdate.com - Jinjiang Action Park amusement park in Shanghai will feature a Harry Potter-themed attraction, expected to become one of the main highlights after renovations are completed.

According to Lin Huanjie, Director of the China Theme Park Research Institute, this attraction will not only attract fans from China but also tourists from other Asian countries. It is expected to boost the tourism industry in the region.

The Harry Potter attraction in Shanghai is made possible through a partnership between Jin Jiang International Holdings Co. Ltd and Warner Bros, the American film company

"Making of Harry Potter" Studio Tour to Open in 2027

The project includes the Making of Harry Potter studio tour, which will be the first of its kind in China and the third in the world. Currently, the project is in the regulatory approval stage and is scheduled to open in 2027.

This partnership involves the development of a 53,000-square-meter area, covering both indoor and outdoor spaces. Visitors will be able to explore iconic scenes from the Harry Potter films, see original character costumes, and view authentic props used in the movies.

According to Lin Huanjie, this collaboration demonstrates American companies' optimism about the Chinese market. He also noted that China’s cultural tourism sector continues to grow, creating new opportunities for global companies like Warner Bros.

"The planned Harry Potter attraction in Shanghai will not only captivate Chinese fans but also attract tourists from other Asian countries, further driving growth in the tourism market," Lin Huanjie told Xinhua in Shanghai on Thursday.

Interest in Harry Potter remains high in China, as evidenced by the re-screening of all eight Harry Potter films in Chinese cinemas in October 2024, which was met with enthusiastic responses from fans.

Previously, a Harry Potter attraction was already present at Universal Studios Beijing in the form of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Now, Jinjiang Action Park is also bringing this magical-themed attraction as part of its major renovation.

According to Zheng Bei, Head of Jinjiang Action Park, the amusement park has been closed since January 2025 for renovation work. In addition to the Harry Potter attraction, other facilities, such as the Shanghai Great Wheel, will also be upgraded.

Once the renovations are complete, Jinjiang Action Park is expected to attract two million visitors annually, a significant increase from its previous annual attendance of around 800,000 visitors.

Jinjiang Action Park, which opened in 1984, covers more than 100,000 square meters, making it one of the oldest and largest recreational parks in Shanghai.
