Anthony Mackie Wears Custom Nike Kobe 9 Elite Protro in Captain America: Brave New World

 Secondupdate.com – Actor Anthony Mackie stars as Sam Wilson, also known as Captain America, in the film Captain America: Brave New World, which will hit theaters on February 12, 2025.

In his role, Mackie wears a custom pair of Nike Kobe 9 Elite Protro high-top sneakers.

According to Hip Hop Wired and Variety, the film’s costume designer, Gersha Phillips, confirmed that Mackie’s shoes were specifically designed to provide comfort and support during action scenes. The high-top model was chosen for its ability to support the ankles and provide the stability needed for jumping and dynamic movements.

Hip Hop Wired also noted that Nike Kobe 9 Elite Protro sneakers are considered more comfortable than Air Jordan 4, especially for those with foot issues like bunions. Previously, graphic designer Chris Kemp created an Avengers: Endgame-themed sneaker design based on Nike Air Jordan.

A Costume Designed for Comfort

In addition to his footwear, Mackie's Captain America costume was also designed for maximum comfort during filming. In one scene, Sam Wilson attends an invitation from President Ross at the White House. For this scene, Mackie wore a suit inspired by the style of actor Sterling K. Brown, which he reportedly loved.

Phillips explained that Marvel’s Head of Visual Development, Ryan Meinerding, was also involved in the design process. He ensured that Sam Wilson’s costume retained elements that connected it to Steve Rogers’ costume, with only minor color adjustments.

One of the most notable changes in the new costume is the chest protector. Phillips opted for a harder texture compared to the previous costume to give it a more heroic look. She also asked Mackie if the costume was too tight, but he actually found it very comfortable. In fact, according to Phillips, Mackie even called it one of the most comfortable costumes he had ever worn.

Captain America: Brave New World is set to deliver thrilling action with a costume design that has been carefully crafted for both aesthetics and the lead actor’s comfort.
