SecondUpdate.com — Nigeria’s music world is in mourning. A young and talented 26-year-old singer, Ifunanya Nwangene, has passed away after a tragic incident at her own home. She reportedly died after being bitten by a snake while she was asleep.
According to a report by BBC Africa, Ifunanya breathed her last on Saturday, January 31, after receiving treatment at a hospital in Nigeria.
Her sudden passing shocked many, especially the music community and the choir where she was actively involved.
The tragic news was confirmed directly by Sam C. Ezugwu, the Music Director of Amemuso Choir, the choir that had long been Ifunanya’s artistic home.
In an official statement, the choir expressed its deep sense of loss.
At the scene, two snakes were reportedly found inside the victim’s house. A video that circulated on social media showed a snake handler evacuating one of the reptiles believed to have bitten Ifunanya.
After being bitten, Ifunanya reportedly tried to obtain antivenom to counteract the snake’s venom. However, her condition continued to deteriorate, forcing her to be referred to another hospital. Sadly, medical efforts failed to save her life.
Ifunanya Nwangene rose to public recognition after appearing on The Voice Nigeria Season 3. Born in Enugu and residing in Abuja, she was known for her powerful and emotional soprano voice.
In addition to her career in music, Ifunanya was also an architect. She frequently shared song covers and original music on her personal YouTube channel, which received positive responses from music enthusiasts.
Her passing has left deep sorrow among her family, colleagues, and fans.
She is remembered as a multitalented individual full of passion and dedication, both in the arts and in her professional career.
