SecondUpdate.com – Christian Bale once again proves his reputation as an actor who gives his all to every role.
The Oscar winner is involved in the latest film by director Maggie Gyllenhaal titled The Bride!, in which he plays a version of Frankenstein’s monster known as “Frank.”
To bring the iconic character to life, Bale had to undergo an intense physical transformation. Every day, he spent around six hours sitting in the makeup chair just to have prosthetics applied. The lengthy process demanded extra patience, as he could barely move for hours at a time.
To stay sane, Bale had a rather unique method. He admitted that he often screamed at the top of his lungs during the makeup process. The ritual helped him release mental pressure and frustration from having to sit still for so long.
In an interview quoted by People on Thursday (5/2), Bale said the screaming helped him vent pent-up energy. He felt it was important to prevent stress during the exhausting makeup sessions.
Interestingly, the habit eventually turned into a bonding moment on set. At first, Bale was hesitant, worried he might be seen as strange. But over time, the crew got used to it and even joined in.
Bale revealed that more and more people began taking part in the ritual. Around 30 crew members would often gather around the makeup trailer just to scream together. The simple activity eventually became part of their daily routine and strengthened the bond among the production team.
By comparison, Bale’s co-star Jessie Buckley, who plays the bride, only needed about 1.5 hours for her makeup process. The significant difference in duration made Bale’s ritual stand out even more behind the scenes.
Jessie Buckley herself described working with Bale as a very intense experience. She likened their characters’ relationship to a “Bonnie and Clyde” version set in a dark and unusual world.
Although she admitted that filming The Bride! was one of the most exhausting experiences of her career, Buckley remained enthusiastic. She believes the energy and chemistry built during production will result in a powerful and memorable film for audiences.
