SecondUpdate.com – Netflix is set to release its latest detective series titled Dept. Q on Thursday, May 29, 2025. The series is adapted from the popular novels by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen, as reported by Tudum by Netflix.

The story follows Detective Carl Morck, portrayed by Matthew Goode. Morck is known as a gruff and difficult investigator who struggles to work with others.

He lives in Edinburgh, Scotland, and is still haunted by a traumatic incident from his past—a shooting during a case that left a young officer dead and his partner severely injured.

Upon returning to duty, Morck is assigned to lead a new unit called Department Q. This division was established by the Scottish Police as part of a public relations strategy, with a special mission to handle cold cases that remain unsolved.

Within this unit, Morck works with a unique and colorful team. Together, they aim to unravel dark mysteries from the past.

The story begins with the resolution of a 16-year-old murder case in Aberdeen. The successful outcome of this investigation reinforces the police department’s belief in the importance of a dedicated team like Department Q.

Chief of Police Moira Jacobson, played by Kate Dickie, appoints Morck to lead the division, though she continues to monitor him from a distance.

In addition to Matthew Goode, the series stars Chloe Pirrie, Jamie Sives, Mark Bonnar, and Alexej Manvelov. Leah Byrne plays Detective Rose Dickson, and Kate Dickie appears as Chief Moira.

Other well-known actors featured include Shirley Henderson, Kelly Macdonald, and Tom Bulpett.

Dept. Q promises a gripping detective story full of tension and mystery, set against the dark and atmospheric backdrop of Scotland.
