Secondupdate.com – Actor Robert Pattinson is reportedly being considered to play the main villain in the upcoming film “Dune: Messiah”, which will be produced by Legendary.
This information was reported by The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday (April 8) local time.
Several sources suggest that Pattinson is most likely being eyed to portray Scytale, the antagonist from the novel series written by Frank Herbert.
However, no official offer has been made to the actor as of now. Pattinson is currently involved in several other film projects, including the sequel to “The Batman” and “The Odyssey.”
Director Denis Villeneuve, who successfully helmed the first two Dune films, is known for working with top-tier Hollywood actors.
The first Dune film and Dune: Part Two featured a star-studded cast including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Jason Momoa, and Josh Brolin.
The first Dune movie, released in 2021, grossed around $410 million worldwide, despite being launched simultaneously with a streaming service due to the pandemic. Meanwhile, Dune: Part Two, which premiered in 2024, earned $714.6 million globally.
The third film, “Dune: Messiah,” is adapted from the 1969 novel and is set 12 years after the events of the first movie. It follows Paul Atreides, now the Emperor, who is married to Princess Irulan but maintains a relationship with his concubine, Chani.
Production for Dune: Messiah is scheduled to begin this summer, with a release date set for December 18, 2026.
Denis Villeneuve has also stated that this will be the last Dune film he directs before moving on to other projects.
As of this writing, neither Legendary nor Pattinson’s representatives have released an official statement. Pattinson recently appeared in the film “Mickey 17,” also produced by Warner Bros.
