Secondupdate.com – Oscar-winning actor and musician Will Smith has officially announced his latest album, Based On A True Story.
The album is set to be released on March 28, 2025, marking Smith’s return to the hip-hop scene after a 20-year hiatus.
He shared the announcement via his Instagram account, @willsmith, on Tuesday (March 18). In his post, Smith is seen wearing a red and white baseball jacket along with a matching cap. He also revealed that the album will feature 14 songs, including a collaboration with his longtime partner, DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Will Smith began his entertainment career as a rapper in the late 1980s, performing alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff in the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. Some of their popular songs include Parents Just Don’t Understand and Girls Ain’t Nothing but Trouble, both of which gained popularity on MTV at the time.
Smith’s hip-hop career peaked in the 1990s with the release of Big Willie Style (1997), featuring hit songs such as Gettin’ Jiggy wit It. He then released three more albums: Willennium (1999), Born to Reign (2002), and Lost and Found (2005). After that, he chose to focus on acting and film production.
As one of the biggest entertainment icons, Will Smith has remained in the spotlight, especially after the incident at the 2022 Academy Awards. During the event, Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock on stage after Rock made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith.
The incident had a significant impact on his reputation, leading the Academy to ban Smith from attending the Oscars for 10 years. However, with this new album, Will Smith seems eager to reaffirm his presence in the music and entertainment industry.
Based On A True Story marks a new chapter in Will Smith’s career. Will the album be well received by fans? We’ll find out on March 28.
