Actress Gwyneth Paltrow recently revealed just how strict Marvel Studios' secrecy policies are. The secrecy was so intense that she didn’t even realize she had appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

In an interview cited by Variety, Paltrow mentioned that Marvel Studios is extremely secretive when handling its projects.

"They keep it a secret," Paltrow said, as reported by Variety on Thursday.

Paltrow played the character Pepper Potts in several Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. However, because the script given to her did not mention Spider-Man’s character, she had no idea she was in the film.

During a video interview with Vanity Fair, Paltrow also only recently realized that she had played Pepper Potts in seven MCU films. When asked about her involvement in several Avengers films, she seemed surprised and said, "That can't be right. There's no way I was in seven films. Really?"

Paltrow's story highlights how Marvel Studios keeps its projects under tight wraps. Actors and crew members are often given limited information. In many cases, the scripts they receive are censored or altered to prevent story details from leaking to the public.

In the interview, Paltrow also reflected on her experience filming Iron Man (2008), the movie that marked the beginning of the MCU. She even commented on her character’s appearance.

Paltrow revealed that the filming atmosphere for Iron Man felt like an independent movie because many scenes were improvised.

According to Paltrow, there was no pressure at the time for the film to be a major success. In fact, the studio considered Iron Man a risky project due to the casting of Robert Downey Jr. as the lead actor. However, after the film’s release, the MCU expanded rapidly, changing the studio’s entire strategy.
