Secondupdate.com – Disney Pixar has officially announced that the sequel to Coco is currently in development at Pixar Animation Studios.

The news was directly shared by Disney CEO Bob Iger during the company's annual shareholder meeting. According to him, although the project is still in its early stages, the film will continue to deliver humor, emotion, and exciting adventures.

The Coco sequel will bring back the creative team from the first film. Coco director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina will return to work on the movie. Additionally, production will be handled by Mark Nielsen, who was previously involved in Toy Story 4 and Inside Out 2.

The first Coco movie was released in 2017 and told the story of Miguel, a 12-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a musician despite his family's long-standing ban on music. During the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration in Mexico, Miguel accidentally enters the Land of the Dead. There, he embarks on a journey to find his great-great-grandfather, a famous musician, to gain his family's blessing and pursue his dream.

The film was a massive success and won several prestigious awards, including two Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song ("Remember Me"). Additionally, Coco received accolades from the Golden Globe Awards, BAFTA, and Critics' Choice Awards.

While no further details about the plot of Coco 2 have been revealed, fans can look forward to the continuation of Miguel's story and the vibrant world inspired by Mexican culture when the film hits theaters in 2029.
