Secondupdate.com – Some time ago, a controversy arose regarding the relationship between Marvel comic legend Stan Lee and his daughter, JC Lee. This was revealed in the book True Believer: The Rise and Fall of Stan Lee by Abraham Riesman, which exposed recordings of conversations between them.
The audio recordings were taken by Stan Lee’s former manager before his passing in 2018. In the recordings, the complex relationship between father and daughter is evident, as they can be heard exchanging insults over the phone.
"I think you are the dumbest white woman I have ever known," said Stan Lee.
"To hell with you, Stan," JC Lee snapped.
However, there is another recording where JC expresses her love for her father. Unfortunately, Stan Lee responded differently, saying that his daughter did not truly understand what love was.
JC Lee, the Spoiled Child
The book describes how Stan Lee and his wife, Joan, spoiled JC Lee excessively. This was believed to be due to their previous loss of a child, who passed away just days after birth.
When JC was born in 1950, her parents became highly protective, though Stan Lee was often preoccupied with his work.
JC attempted to pursue a career as an actress and attended an arts school, but she did not last long.
In 1980, when their family moved to California, Stan Lee bought JC a house. However, she used the house for partying and drug abuse with her friends.
Extravagant Lifestyle
JC was known to be extravagant and frequently spent her father’s money. In one interview, Stan Lee revealed that despite having a fortune of up to $70 million, he still attended comic conventions because he needed money.
"I need money. My wife loves to spend it, and my daughter is even worse," he stated, as quoted in the book.
In 2014, a witness claimed that JC had physically assaulted her parents because she was unhappy with her birthday gift—a Jaguar that was not the car she wanted.
Inheritance Disputes and Legal Battles
After Stan Lee passed away, his entire inheritance was left to JC Lee. However, it seemed that was still not enough for her.
JC accused POW! Entertainment of seizing copyrights that should have been under Stan Lee Media. However, the court ruled that Stan Lee Media had no legal claim over the intellectual property.
The presiding judge urged all parties to respect Stan Lee’s legacy and refrain from unnecessary lawsuits. As a consequence of the case, JC Lee was fined Rp 14.2 billion.
