Secondupdate.com – The legendary spy film franchise, James Bond, has now been officially acquired by Amazon. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, immediately announced this news on his social media account.

He also asked his followers who they thought should be the next James Bond.

"Who deserves to be the next James Bond?" Bezos wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter), while sharing a BBC article about the acquisition.

Many netizens responded with various candidate names, including Henry Cavill, James McAvoy, Theo James, and even Tom Cruise.

However, this acquisition also brought significant changes behind the scenes. Two key producers of the James Bond franchise, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who have managed the franchise since 1961, decided to step down from the project.

Daniel Craig, who portrayed James Bond in five films, shared his thoughts on this decision. In an interview with Variety, he expressed his respect and admiration for Broccoli and Wilson.

"My respect, admiration, and love for Barbara and Michael remain constant and unwavering," said Craig, who played the British spy in five films.

"I hope Michael enjoys a long, relaxing (and well-deserved) retirement, and whatever Barbara chooses to pursue, I know it will be spectacular. I hope I can be a part of it."

As part of the acquisition deal, Amazon MGM, along with Wilson and Broccoli, formed a joint venture to manage the rights to James Bond.

Although Amazon purchased MGM in 2022 for $8.5 billion, they only own 50% of the James Bond franchise and act as a passive partner in creative decisions.

Since the release of No Time to Die in 2021, speculation about the next James Bond has continued to circulate. However, there has been no official announcement yet regarding who will replace Daniel Craig as the next 007 agent.
