Secondupdate.com – The legendary series The X-Files is set to return, this time under the direction of Ryan Coogler, the Oscar-nominated director of Black Panther (2018) for Best Picture.

In an interview on The Last Podcast on The Left, quoted by NME on Monday, Coogler expressed his excitement.

"I'm currently working on the X-Files project. It's about to get started. I've been looking forward to this opportunity for a long time and I’m very excited to work on it. Some of the episodes, if handled professionally, will be incredibly suspenseful," Coogler confirmed during the podcast interview.

The X-Files first aired in 1993 on FOX TV. The series was created by Chris Carter and ran until 2002.

In addition to the main series, The X-Files also had two feature films released in 1998 and 2008, and returned for two revival seasons in 2016 and 2018.

The story of The X-Files revolves around two FBI agents, Mulder (played by David Duchovny) and Scully (played by Gillian Anderson), who investigate mysterious cases and supernatural phenomena, including threats of alien invasion.

Ryan Coogler has recently completed his latest film titled Sinners. The film has gained attention for its innovative blend of various genres and social themes.

Following the success of Black Panther, Coogler has also been involved in several other Marvel projects, including directing episodes of the animated series What If...? and the upcoming Ironheart series.

While Mulder and Scully are iconic characters in the franchise, Coogler appears unlikely to rely heavily on them in his reboot. However, he has spoken with Gillian Anderson (Scully) and hopes she will return, although her exact role has yet to be determined.
