The cine-concert Samsara, directed by Garin Nugroho, has once again graced the international stage. Following its successful performance at Esplanade, Singapore, Samsara now takes center stage at Perth Festival 2025 in Western Australia.
The performance was held at His Majesty’s Theater and attended by over 1,200 spectators. Perth Festival itself is the oldest arts festival in Australia, having been held for 72 years.
Artistic Director of Perth Festival, Anna Reece, expressed her admiration for Samsara.
"I absolutely loved the performance because of its mesmerizing blend of live music and visuals—it was truly captivating. You will love it too, as it takes you into another world," said Anna Reece in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
Discussion with the Director and Producer of "Samsara"
Ahead of Samsara's performance at Perth Festival on Friday (February 21), the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Perth hosted a discussion event titled Meet the Director and Producer of Samsara. The event took place at KJRI Perth two days before the main performance.
The discussion featured Garin Nugroho as the director, Gita Fara as the producer, along with several key members of the production team, including Juliet Burnett, the Balinese gamelan group Yuganada, and electronic music composer Gabber Modus Operandi.
The Acting Head of KJRI Perth, Amelia Marta Ninditawaty, emphasized that Samsara's participation in this festival is more than just a performance.
"This serves as a bridge that connects our cultural heritage with a global audience, fostering dialogue, understanding, and cross-border collaboration," she stated.
International and National Tour Plans
The Samsara performance in Perth involved more than 30 musicians, vocalists, and technical teams from various regions in Indonesia, including Bali, Jakarta, and Bandung.
Following its successful run at Perth Festival, Samsara plans to continue its international and national tour throughout the year.
